Chichen Itza Mayan Observatory

One of the New 7 Wonders of the World, along with the Great Wall of China, Chichen Itza is a magnificent ancient Maya city in Yucatan, Mexico.  Under 2 hours from Merida, Yucatan or just over 2 hours from the Mayan Riviera, Chichen Itza is one of the most recognizable icons of Mexico. We recommend getting a fuller experience than just a rushed 2 hour visit with thousands of other people. Instead, stay a night in the area & that way you can beat the rush by getting into the park in the early morning hours, before the crowds & the midday heat. You could also head out to the nearby cenotes for a swim first, have lunch, and then head to the archaeological park in the late afternoon, when it is also less crowded.

“Entering the grounds of the 16th Century Hacienda Chichen at the ancient Mayan site of Chichen Itza is to enter a magical world. The gardens, the service, ah! the organic food…everything is sparkling and perfect. I must say your chef is outdoing himself. Every dish we ordered was a work of art and tasty beyond compare. We felt like the guests wishes are satisfied all the time. And how attractive our room was! — Dr. M. Burling, CA

“This hotel is absolutely beautiful. Our room or little private cottage was very comfy and quaint and breakfast was done delicious on the patio of the hotel. The is a perfect place to stay for visiting Chichen Itza, it’s just a short walk from the hotel through the garden to the entrance of Chichen Itza.” — seashells003 on TripAdvisor
